DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Devonport Borough Council met last evening, <the Mayor, Mr. E. Aldridge, presiding. Leave of Absence.— Mr. E. H. Little requested one month's leave of absence for health reasons. A motion of sympathy with Mr. Little in his indisposition was passed and leave granted. Vauxhall Sea Wall.—Progress was reported of this work, completion before Christmas being anticipated. The engineer was instracted to provide an estimate for & retaining wall across a portion of the adjoining reserve. Christmas Day Pictures. —Application was made for permission to screen pictures at the Victoria Theatre on Christmas Night. The council agreed that permission should be granted, the permission to incorporate, on the Mayor's motion, that it would be a gracious act for the lessee to make a donation to the funds of the Devonport dental clinic for school children.
Area For Destructor.—The Board of Health wrote defining the area that should be served iby. the North Shore destructor. Tiie matter with regard to outside areas ■was referred to the borough's representatives on the destructor committee, with power to act. Band Carnival.—The Devonport United Band asked permission to hold a carnival on the Windsor Reserve from December 23 to January 7. It was granted subject to arrangements being made to safeguard flower beds and other borough property on the reserve. Cheltenham Kiosk.—The treasurer presented a report on the kiosk -which, snowed that estimated surplus revenue would provide for the annual charges on a loan of £2000. The engineer was instructed to prepare a scheme for the expenditure of £2000 on 'bathing facilities and improvements at Cheltenham Beach liie painting of the kiosk was anthorised' the successful tenderer , being Mr. j' O Bnen. Paths at Cemetery.—The town clerk iras authorised to prepare a by-law governing the construction of water channels to monuments alongside pathways at the cemetery. ' Garage Entrances.— The committee of the council recommended that under the provisions of the Town Planning Act a iby-layv should toe drafted prohibiting the erection of garages within 15ft of the streetfroota-gelnie:of -eoj; ".. . i
