CHIEF'S BURIAL.

LAST RITES AT PUKAKI

TRIBUTES TO DECEASED,

The Waiohua people of Pukaki Pa, Mangere, yesterday afternoon followed the remains of Chief Napi Wiriliana Takaanini (Napi Wilson) to the neighbouring small cemetery which overlooks the Manukau Harbour. Here, the graveside ceremony was taken by the Rev. Otene Paul, with Maori and pakeha participating in the hymnals. After the burial the native mourners, including the, deceased's son, daughters and agea mother, remained to offer the final gesture of grief. Amongst those who 1 attended the funeral were Mr. Wm. Barr (one of the oldest residents of Oneliunga, and a life-long friend of the departed chief), Mr. P. A. Miller, representing the Auckland Rugby League, and Sister Ivy Jones, of the Methodist Mission, the late Napi Wilson having been an adherent of the Methodist Church. The coffin was covered with some fine tribal mats, and the many beautiful wreaths included floral tributes from the headmaster and pupils of Mangere School, Mangere United League Football Club, the Rugby League and from Mr. and Mrs. K. May. The obsequies between relatives and friends were concluded at the pa last evening.
