RICCARTON NOTES.

PAQUITO GOES USEFUL MILE,

HOYLAKE GALLOPS ATTRACTIVELY,

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday,

The cbnditions were unpleasant for the early work at Riccarton this morning. There were frequent showers, and following on heavy overnight rain they made the track very dead, though not really heavy. The weather cleared after breakfast. P. V. Mason worked Huon, Jaleux and Praise the reverse way. They are in good health for the Auckland trip. F. D. Jones was out early with his team, and they did reverse work. Paquito and Dunraven both moved along-freely, the former doing a. useful mile. Hoylake reeled off seven furlongs in very attractive style. This fellow will be worth keeping in mind for holiday engagements. Dutch Money was responsible for a useful six furlongs spin. Buoyant covered a mile at a sound pace, and looked as if lie could have done better. He may show up at Ashbutron on Saturday. The sale of Chide probably means the cancellation of G-. Murray-Aynsley's trip to Auckland." Stately was to have accompanied the stable crack North, but it is unlikely that she will be sent byherself. Count C'avour is working along steadily. He is in the best of health, and he should be in good condition for his fifth try' at the Auckland Cup on Boxing Day. Amor continues to get through useful tasks on the Riccarton tracks. He has not entirely thrown off the effects of his mishap at Rarigiora on Labour Dav, but he is making good progress towards recovery. In the meantime, however, no definite arrangements have been made for his immediate racing programme. 1 rovided lie trains 011 satisfactorily it is possible that he will g0 to Auckland, but it may be found advisable to adopt a waiting policy and to keep him till later in the season.
