NOTES FROM WANGANUI.
W. RAYNER'S TEAM. ALTERATIONS. IN SUMMER PROGRAMME. WANGANUI, Tuesday. Star Area, Mangahaehi and Fernden have dropped out of their first day engagements at Feilding, and M. Gardner
has only Valma engaged on Saturday. The others are all well, but owing to hard tracks, have done no fast work lately. In any case Star- Area was considered to be rather harshly treated.
W. Rayner gave Drastic a three-furlong spin this morning, but she was not required to do her best, registering 07 '4-3s, and doing it nicely. With Ceremony to carry him along, Pedestftl was sent five furlongs, but the half-brother to Commendation was in a lazy mood and took 1.4 4-5 to cover the distance. He will need some rating to liven him up. Ceremony has brightened up since returning from Sydney, but he has done practically "no fast work owing to the hard track, and consequently will i}ot be seen at his best in the- Feilding Stakes. Pedestal and Drastic will probably be taken to the Woodville meeting next month.
Pomp was taken to the course this morning but was not worked. He walks freely, and the. prospects of standing a preparation look bright. The son of Absurd has grown into a fine-looking colt.
Limited has dropped out of the Flying Handicap at Feilding, and Avro out of the Cup, but the Fordell stable has Ruanui left in the big event, and he must be dangerous, as he is good over a mile and a quarter when at his best.
The programme for the Wanganui Cup meeting,* to be lield on February 13' and 15 has boon drawn tip. The added money for the Cup will bo £900, and in addition a £okl cup value £100 is to go to the owner of the, winner. The value of the Flying Handicap to the winner has boon increased from £,260 to £275. The Juvenile Handicap, previously for two-year-olds, TVi*l be open to two and three-year-olds. The conditions governing the Autumn Hack Handicap on the second day have been altered. The race will be called the Autumn Handicap, and horses of two or three years olrO only are eligible. The distance has been reduced to iive furlongs.
