DRAW IN SIGHT.
Great Innings By Woolley For A Double Century. BOWLEY DOES NOT BAT. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, November 25. The cricket match New South Wales v. England was resumed this morning.
The feature of the day was a great partnership between Woolley and Turnbull for the visitors. It yielded 269 runs.
When stumps were drawn on Saturday New South Wales had made 629 in their first innings for eight wickets and declared and England had lost three wickets for 171, Woolley (61) and Turnbull (28) being the not out men.
When the game was resumed these two batsmen gave a delightful exhibition. The New South Wales bowling lacked variety and Woolley scored all round "the wicket. Turnbull, however, was very restrained, choosing only loose balls to score from.
When Turntmll had made his century he was smartly caught by Bradman off his own bowling. Worthington met a similar fate, being smartly taken by Hooker.
Woolley went on to a double century. This is his sixth century on the Sydney cricket ground and the largest total he has made in Australia. A hard chance to the wicketkeeper, Allsopp, who was acting as substitute for Oldfield, was the only blemish on his innings.
Rain caused some short adjournments. Finally Woolley's long innings came to an end shortly after tea. He had been batting 244 minutes and had hit 24 fours.
Fairfax secured two wickets with successive balls. Two appeals by the same bowler for leg before against Barratt off the next two balls were disallowed. Legge batted attractively before spooning a ball up to square leg. England's innings closed for 469. Bowley was still unfit to play. The New South Wales fielding was ragged. Fairfax and Jackson opened New South Wales' second innings. They batted steadily until the seventh appeal against the light was successful and stumps were drawn.
