[■•! RICCARTON JOTTINGS. COUNT CAVOUR FOR ELLERSLIE : TO RUN IN HIS FIFTH CUP. G. D. GREENWOOD'S HORSES \ COMING UP. I (By telegraph.—Special to " Star.") j . CHRISTCHUECH, this day. According to present arrangements, T. H. Gillett will take only Count Cavour North for the summer meeting of the Auckland Racing Club. The veteran is in good health, although his form at the Riccarton carnival was disappointing, but liis owner, Mr. J, S. Barrett, is anxious to see his old favourite in his fifth Auckland Cup. He has been second tAviee in that race, and a win would be very popular.
The tiiree-year-old filly Dutch Money is being kept in steady work, and she may be a competitor at the Ashburton meeting to be held on Saturday of next week. She is a speedy galloper, liable to' win good sprint races later in the season.
The imported horse Honeycomb is at present enjoying a spell. He has gone sore on more than one occasion when the tracks were hard, and he has had a recurrence of the trouble. It is probable that W. G. Hobbs will wait until late in the season before lie puts Honeycomb in serious work again, as winter conditions appear to suit him best.
Mr. J. R. McKenzie's two-year-old brother to Count Cavour, by Solferino from Bon Bord, is training 6n nicely, and he may have his first race at the Canterbury Jockey Club's summer meeting in February. He is a youngster of considerable promise, and he may develop into a worthy rival to his wellJerformed relative.
The English-bred colt by Ellangowan, wlip is being prepared by T. H. Gillett to carry the colours of Mr.- J. R. McKenzie, is going on well in his preparation. It is probable.lie will be given a race early in the New Year.
Mr. G. Gould's two-year-old Pharaoh, by Shambles from. Palestina, was operated on this week, and when next lie races it will be as a gelding. He will have a spell for a couple of months, but he may be got ready after, that for autumn engagements.
With Honour available for the Derby, and Praise for the Foal Stakes, Mr. G. D. Greenwood should have a useful team for the Auckland Racing Club's summer meeting this season. They have been on the easy list since they raced at the Canterbury Jockey Club's carnival, but very soon P. V. Mason will have them striding along again in useful tasks.
The three-year-old Jaleux, one of Mr. G. IX' Greenwood's team, looks a likely sort for engagements ahead. He has riot won a race-yet, but he ran a. couple of good'races on the Australian trip, while his performance in the-,New Zealand Derby drew further attention to his future prospects.
Sunny Pal, a three-year-old by Paladin from Sunny Brook, is a recent addition to F. D. Jones' team..
Swoopalong was lame after doing steady work on Saturday, and the March Along mare will require a spell. The three-year-old gelding Storm Raid, bv Niirhtraid from Oratava, has rejoined Mrs. J. Campbell's team sfter a spell, during which he was operated on for throat troubles. He is a big horse, who may win sprint races later in the season. .
A Dunedin report states that Ui , Paper Money mare GaternilNtr will probably be transferred to Wingatui. as her owner, Mr. J. Richardson, naturally,, prefers to have his horses trained where he can see them at work. ■' '■'"..'
