MR. JOHN COURTNEY.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)' WHANGAREI, Thursday. A pioneer of North Auckland, Mr. John Courtney, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. Eylee, aged 87 years, He was born in Cornwall and came to New Zealand in 1863. He first went farming at Mangapai, but later took up land at Maungakaramea, having in the first instance to cut a track to his holding through dense bush. Mr. Courtney lived at Maungakaramea for forty-eight years, removing in 1911 to Whangarei to spend the evening of his life. He is survived by four eons and three daughters.
