BLUEJACKET INSULTED.
ACTED IN SELF DEFENCE.
FIGHT WITH CIVILIAN,
Seen fighting, in Gore Street last evenins Ernest Francis Pinnegar, aged 31, a leading seaman from H.M.B. Laburnum, and James William Simpson, aged 31, a civilan, were collected by a constable, both appearing at the Police Court this morning charged with fighting. Simpson pleaded guilty, while the sailor pleaded guilty in self defence. "Whatever happend, they were certainly fighting when the constable came along," said Sub-Inspector McCarthy. "Simpson has not been before Court for a long while. Pinnegar is given a splendid character by his officer, who is in Court. His record since he has been in the Navy is an excellent one. Pinnegar said in evidence that bimpcon accosted and insulted him. Simpson went to strike witness, who struck him, and the fight started. Simpson had nothing to say except to state that "it is one of those rows which start out of nothing at all." Mr Hunt said he thought Simpson was to blame and fined him H. The charge against Pinnegar was dismissed.
