HARBOUR BRIDGE.
BIRKENHEAD SUPPORT. FURTHER DONATION MADE. That the Harbour Bridge Association should not fail for lack of funds at the crucial hour was the keynote of a discussion at the Birkenhead Borough Council last evening, when, in addition to the recent donation, a supplementary ifrant of ten guineas was.voted. It was realised that funds were needed to properly place the case tor the bridge before the commission. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. McPhail) expressed disappointment at the intimation of the Bridge Association at the opening sitting of the Commission' that it was not ready to go on. He had understood the association had gathered all necessary information. Mr. J. Kerruish moved that an extra donation of' teir guineas be made. He said the association must be provided with the necessary finance to carry the matter through. In common with the other North Shore districts, Birkenhead would benefit from the enthusiasm of the association's workers. If the council gave £100 it would not be too much. Mr. W. B. Darlow, who seconded, said the association was just coming to the life or death stage, and the amount should be freely given if it was likely to assist to bring the bridge. Mr. R. R. Hayman said Birkenhead was behind the association morally, and should also be financially, and he strongly supported the motion. An amendment, that five guineas bo voted, moved by Mr. H. A. Campbell, and seconded by Mr. G. B. Hewson, was lost, and the motion carried. Mr. McPhail: I hope the president will not go out of his way to show that the Birkenhead site should not be considered.
