ROADS DAMAGED.

RAIN IN BAY OF PLENTY. RIVERS RUNNING HIGH. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WHAKATANE, this day. Heaw rains throughout the district in the last few days have caused slight damage to the road troubles. The motor road is blocked, and there is a big slip in the Waimana Gorge, but the Whakatane-OpotiM motor service is being maintained by cars, which, run to j each aide of the slip. The Rotorua Road is passable, but "boggy through the bush portions. The rivers are high, but not overflowing. The ship Toa attempted to enter port this morning, and after successfully negotiating the bar she was coming up the narrows when she was caught and swung round by the flood waters in the river. She then put out to sea again, and did not re-enter the port.
