ONE TREE HILL AFFAIRS.

TRAFFIC CONGESTION PROBLEM. MOTOR CYCLE NUISANCE.' "In connection with the matter of traffic congestion, which is not a new question for *his board," said Mr. R. J. Clarke at the meeting of the One. Tree Hill Road Board last evening, "I have to 6ay that it took one 'hour to clear the La'bour Day race traffic from the Epsom Showgrounds. This matter of traffic congestion hae become serious for this 'board." It had been rectified in one quarter, he continued, and he failed to see why the same could not be done in the One Tree Hill district. It was a. question of how long the iboard was prepared to submit to existing conditions. Mr. J. Hardwicke, chairman, said it appeared that the Transport Board knew that observations were taken ;by the board, and had prepared for it by speeding up the departure of trams on that particular date. He was of the opinion that a line down through Greenlane, connecting Manukau Road to the Great South Road, would obviate the difficulty.

"I think the board could put forward a very strong case to the Transport Board," said Mr. W. G. Mulholland. He had taken particular notice of the traffic on the last race day,, and had noticed, that, owing to the line of trams down the centre of the etreet right from the barn to Greenwood's Corner, motorists were forced to go to the latter place before being able to cross the street to return to the city.

A letter was received from tie Penroee Ratepayers' Association, complaining of the excessive speed of motor cars and motor cycles on the Great South Road past the terminus. It was contended that this constituted a menace to school children. Particular objection was taken to motor cycles without silencers, which, the ratepayers eaid, used that stretch of the road at all hours of the day and night. The matter was referred to the inspector for a report.
