CHRISTMAS CHEER.
MAYORESS' WAR LEAGUE. DISPLAY AND GARDEN PARTY, A bright display, of toys and scrap-' books,.which have been made by some 100 ■ workers in' Auckland for the Mayoress' War Memorial Library League, is being made in Civic House Building, near.the Town Hall, as a preliminary, to a garden party, which is to be held on Saturday at the home of Mrs. E. A. Kidd, "Hounslow," Gillies; Avenue,' Epsom. The garden party will be. opened by the Mayoress, Mrs; A. D. Campbell, and the arrangements are being made by the committee, of which Miss Alice Basten is secretary. From now until Christmas many a fairy gift will be finding its. way into some home in the backblocks, to a bedside in some'country hospital or to an equivalent place in some orphanage. This excellent league not only dispenses cheer to children, but sends magazines and books as well to adults who are in need of them. '
