CHILDREN'S DANCE.

A children's fancy drees and poster ball was held in the Society of Arts Hall last evening. It was organised by the Auckland women's, branch of the New Zealand Labour party, and there was a splendid gathering of children in some very original and pretty costumes. The grand march presented a very gay scene to the adults present who took a keen interest in the proceedings, and the task of the judges, Miss Nola Casilli, Mr. T. Vivian and Mr. Staley, was a difficult one. The committee present were; Mrs. L. Harrison (president), who wore a frock of black marocain and georgette; Mrs. Soljak, secretary, cyclaoieu georgette and cream lace; Mrs. E. Butterfield, pink floral crepe de chine; Mrs. A. M. Caseie, cream georgette; Mrs. Hallett, petunia satin; Mrs. F. E. Martin, black georgette; Mrs. McGuinnes, pastel shaded georgette. Also assisting in the entertainment of the children was Mrs. Henderson who acted as announcer. During the evening elocutionary items were given by Mr. T. Vivian and Master J. Cassie and a dance and recital was given by Miss Patricia Boyle. The prize winners were as follows: Best fancy dress, girl, Alice Naylor, Early Victorian; boy, P. Boyle, rose. Most original, girl, Lois Henricksen, old lady; boy, M. Dreaver, Mtee 1930. Best comic representation, girl, J. MeLellan, flapper; boy, Frank Hookway, married man. The winners in the poster class were: Girl, Joan Anderson, and boy, M. Common. The two prizes for best propaganda costumes were changed and made into special prizes, one for a poster and the other for an original representation, the former being won by Dorothy Dreaver, .and the latter by Patricia Wilson, a brown paper parcel. In the tiny tots' section the prize winner was Rena Innes who represented Red Riding Hood. Others present were: Anna Wynn, butterfly; Desmond Wynne, Boy Blue; Patty Hutton, Bo Peep; Paul Soljak, Farmers' Trading poster; Eleanor Fry (Waihi), Christmas stocking; Mona Maguinness, tin soldier; May Brooks, bride; Alan Brooks, bridegroom; Lyla Innes, Cinderella; Joan Anderson, woollen mills; Joyce Thompson, Egyptian; Winnie Schofield, gipsy; Gladys Arthur, jolly stick; Thelma Wallbank, Hawaiian; Margie Wallbank, goodnight; Laurie Conncm, golliwog; Kathleen Boyle, Mongolian princess; Cissie Blair, helio georgette; Colleen Maguinnes, Irish colleen; Jewel Innes, fairy; Norma Hull, circus girl; Joyce Gardner, fire fairy; Gladys Bowles, jolly stick; Essie Prenter, chicken; Russell Laing, jockey; Joyce Laing, Sir Walter Raleigh; Marjorie Maguinness, Hungarian peasant; Mae Akersten, Prince Charming; Loma Kay, Cinderella (wedding drees); Donald Frogatt, Red Riding Hood; Trevor Frogatt, wolf.
