TO-DAY'S RACING.

WHANGAREI CLUB. i _____ SIR ARCHIE'S CUP. CRIMESTOR TAKES THE PLATE HURDLES TO GOLDEN WEDDING. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") WHANGAREI, this day. There is a good attendance for the opening of the Whangarei Racing Club's spring meeting at Kensington Park, where it ■ "1 terminate on Saturday. The weather is fine, though dull, but the track is holding after overnight rain. Racing commenced with the Spring Plate for which Measurer was the only defection. Crimestor ( £391), Norval Tea (£244) and Sea Song (£215) carried the bulk of the money, and the public were correct in their summing up. Norval Tea was first out from Valorient, Tukunoa, Land Measure, Section, Tetrarchate, and Sea Song, but crossing the top Valorient had taken charge,°with Norval Tea and Crimestor, who had made up ground fast, next followed by Land Measure, Sea Song and Tetrarchate. Norval Tea was first into the straight, closely attended by Crimestor, Valorient, Tetrarchate and Wild Country. In the run to the post Crimestor and Tetravchate did best, the first-named getting the verdict by a neck with Wild Country two and a half lengths away third. ■ Valorient was fourth, then came Norval Tea, Good Idea, and Sea Song. Another Favourite Wins. Pellette was the only withdrawal from the Kensington Handicap, leaving a field of eleven to go to the post. When betting ceased Bombarder (£380) was favourite, with Red Lion (£349) and Mauriaena ( £290) next in request. It was a bad start, as Mauriaena was turned around when the barrier lifted, and Red Lion and Haviland were also badly left. Luxurious was quickest to begin . and led along the back from Diamond Queen, Roman Pearl, Big Bertha and Bombarder. Crossing the top Big Bertha was in front, . with Luxurious, Roman Pearl and Bombarder all handy. There was little alteration as jfchey turned into the straight, where Big Bertha was showing the way to Luxurious and Bombarder, with Roman Pearl, Waiau Lady and Patutahi next. Bombarder took charge half-way down the straight and went on to win by half a length from Roman Pearl, who beat Big Bertha by a length and a half. Patutahi was fourth, then came Luxurious, Diamond Queen and Waiau Lady.

An Inquiry. After the race an inquiry was held concerning Mauriaena, Red Lion and Haviland being badly left at the start. The starter, Mr. C. O'Connor, stated that as the barrier lifted, the three horses wheeled around, and there was no question in his mind that the horses were facing the barrier when he released it. Mr. H. McDonald, who was acting as starter's steward, confirmed Mr. O'Connor's statement. After hearing the starter's explanation it wae accepted as satisfactory. Still Another Well-backed Victor. Mountain Quide and Sea Comet failed to parade for the Huanui Hurdles, for which Golden Wedding was made a warm favourite, carrying £597, next in demand being Sleepy Sol (£220) and Adjuster (£173). Golden Wedding was soon in front and led past the stand from Scrang, Night Comet, Automne, Sleepy Sol and Bob Amans. Xight Comet fell at the first fence. Golden Wedding and Automne were the leaders at this stage, with Adjuster and Sleepy Sol next, followed by Michael and Bob Amans and Serang. Going along the back the last time Golden Wedding was showing the way to Adjuster, Automne and Sleepy Sol, and crossing the top she was twelve lengths clear of the field, with, Adjuster about the same distance ahead of Sleepy Sol, who was followed by Serang. In the run to the judge Golden Wedding was not troubled to win by twelve lengths from Adjuster, who beat Serang by a similar margin. Sleepy Sol was fourth, followed by Bob Amans and Michael.

Surprise in Cup. When the field paraded for the Cup, Delightment, Maori Boy and Liaison were migsing. It was a good betting race, with most money (£670) entrusted to High Pitch, while King Emerald (£490) and Le Choucas (£486) also had good support. Sir Archie, the winner, carried £92 and Thursby £117. When the field had settled down, Thursby was showing the way to Sir Archie, Le Choucas, Palmares, High Pitch, Transformer, King Emerald and Wenday, and passing the stand they were racing in the same order. Along the back Thursby was two lengths in front of Sir Archie, then came Palmares, Le Choucas and High Pitch, with Transformer last. High Pitch was running second to Thursby as they went across the top, followed by Sir Archie, Le Choucas and King Emerald. 'When they came into the straight, Thursby was still leading from Sir Archie and High Pitch, then came Lo Choucas, Palmares and King Emerald. Sir Archie- finished on best in the run home and beat Thursby by two lengths, with High Pitch two lengths and a half further back. Le Choucas was fourth, then came Wenday, King Einerald, Palmares and Transformer. Detailed results:— SPRING PLATE of llOsors. Six furlongs. I—CRIMESTOR, b g, 3yrs, Polymestor —Crema (Mr. D.
