DISABLED SOLDIERS.
ECONOMIC PENSIONS INQUIRY AVENUES FOR EMPLOYMENT. WELLINGTON, this day. It was the opinion of the Economic Pensions Commission, which commenced its sittings to-day, Mr. J. S. Barton presiding, that, while there were undoubtedly avenues for employment of partially disabled soldiers in the manufacturing and business life of the Dominion, the establishment of factories to compete with existing concerns was inadvisable. Absorption of the men in established factories and businesses was preferable, and it was suggested that financial encouragement of firms to take on disabled men would be justified. The establishment of a control board to ensure co-operation between firms and returned soldiers, suggested by a witness, met with approval.
