UNITED POLITICAL PARTY.
The Society of Arts Hall was the scene of a large gathering last evening when a meeting of the women's branch of the United Political party was held. The chairwoman, Mrs. N. Von Stunner, presided. Dr. R. M. Beattic was the speaker for the evening. His address was on politics, particularly in their relation to women, and he dealt with the four aspects of the political sphere, finance, land problems and taxation, unemployment and public health. As regards the last aspect, Dr. Beattie emphasised the fact that more creches were needed in Auckland. This, he said, would be of great assistance to the mothers and give them an opportunity of getting away from the cares of homo life during some part of the day. The speaker also touched on the need for recreation grounds, and expressed the opinion that the citizens of Auckland should have possession of Motuihi Island. If cheap buildings were erected on this ideally situated island, delicate women and children could be sent thero lo regain their health. At the conclusion of his address Mrs. Von Stunner made a brief speech of thanks on behalf of-the audience. ........
