FIRES IN AUCKLAND.
| BRIGADES CALLED OUT. ALARM AT POINT CHEVALIER. Youthful exuberance in Guy Fawkes celebrations and a gusty night combined to keep the hands of the fire brigades full.last night. A bonfire in Violet Crescent, Parnell, caused a more extensive blaze than the burners of the effigy ever intended, and the Parnell Brigade was called. That was at 7.47. At the same time the Point Chevalier Brigade received its first call. Another celebration off Ward Street had exceeded expectations, but was put out without difficulty. At 9.47 a bonfire, piled high in a gorse paddock at the corner of Johnstone Street and Point Chevalier Road, got out of hand, spread to the gorse, and again necessitated the calling of the brigade. Finally about 9.30 a call was received to the Western Springs Road, but this time there was no sign of a fire. , Considerable alarm was felt by some of the residents at Point Chevalier over one blaze, which some thoughtless small boye were building higher" and higher some 20 yards from a petrol supply "Station.
