REVUE AT ST. JAMES'.
JIM GERALD'S COMPANY. An entertainment with a good mixture of song, dance, and humour was presented by Jim Gerald's Company for their fifth change of programme at the. St. James' Theatre last evening. "Happy Ideas " is the title, under which the first half of the programme was billed, and the second session, in which a farcical musical comedy was staged, was announced as'"Oh, Mum!" As many happy ideas as could have been conceived were crowded into that hour's entertainment, which contained every quality that revue demands. A delightfully airy presentation, in which the lady in the moon was serenade;:, and, in reply, bestowed her favours on her admirers, formed the opening chorus by the entire company. It was a bright number which introduced a colourful atmosphere that was repeated in almost every presentation. .It was followed by a* short farce, in which " The Big Nuisance" (as Jim Gerald has come to be known), helped by Heg I Hawthorn and Dan Weldon, presided, as a curate, over an amusing prohibition .meeting. Ballet numbers, ensembles, and sketches, in which vocal numbers were sung by Linda Foy, Letty Craydon, and Lily Coburn, and graceful steps performed by the " Twmklcrs." completed the bill/ A sociality dance by Olivette, and a Hawaiian scena. entitled "Dreamy Honolulu," were outstanding numbers on this half of tlu programme. Five scenes were staged in " Oh, Mum!" in which Jim Gerald and his accomplices in fun-making wi'Vi at their best. In the role of a dame, Jim Gerald kept the house simmering with laughter throughout the presentation. Mrs, Muggins was a character which he played delightfully. Essie Jennings and Ronnie Shand contributed to the humour with clever child impersonations and other individual touches were provided by Linda Foy, who sang " Dream House," Mercia Elliott, Letty Craydon and Lily Coburn. Ronnie Shand and Joan Graham were -featured in a dance duo, and Olivette contributed another solo, a butterfly dance. A storm of enthusiasm was brought by expectations of a few new verses of "Mr. Gallagher and Mr. Shean," by "The Big Nuisance*' and Reg Hawthorn, and at its completion the number was again accorded a burst of applause. Two oher numbers which must be mentioned were "The Garbage Gentlemen's Ball,'" w>th Jim Gerald and Essie Jennings featuring together, and "Nirvana," by Tom Dale, which introduced the attractive finale, with the entire company in kilts. The entertainment will .be repeated until next Tuesdav.
