The Otago Harbour Board's new dredge Otokau, besides being the second largest bucket dredge in the world, and easily the largest in Australia or New Zealand, is the largest craft of its kind which has gone down the slips from English shipyards. The Otokau is a twin screw, self-pro-pelled hopper dredge, of the bucket and ladder type, and she cost about #125.000. The overall height above : the keel is 90ft to the bridge. The centre bow well, which is about 87ft 6in long, and Oft 9in to Oft 9in at the fore end, was sheathed for the trip. She has a hopper capacity of 2000 tons, and her speed during trials on the Clyde was 10£ knots and. 10 knots astern.
