LOCAL BODIES.

ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL, A meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was held last night, Mr. E. Morton, Mayor, presiding. Cost _of Power.—ln answer to the council's request for a reduction in the charge for electric power at the pumping stations, the Auckland Electric Power Board intimated that if it is possible to shut off Princess Street plant between the hours of 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., the power board would be prepared to charge the council a flat rate of %d per unit. If any consumption takes place during the restricted hours the council to pay for it on the basis of £10 per k.v.a. average proportionately. The power board expressed the opinion that the council was saving £1100 per year on its operating costs alone, due to the installation of the electric pumps. It was impossible to offer any reduction in tl\e rates for power at present. Mr. W. C. Hill, chairman of the water committee, reported that it would not be possible to shut off the plant as suggested between 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock in summer time. The letter was referred to the pumping engineer to report at the next meeting.

Esplanade Road.—Permission was received from the Auckland Harbour Board to widen Esplanade Road if the council complies with the provisions of the Harbours Act. Citizens' Band.—Permission was granted to the Citizens' Band to hold a Paddy's Market in February next to raise funds for the erection of a band rotunda in Jellicoe Park. Petrol Tax—The sum of £307 6/2 was received from the Main Highways Board as the council's portion of the petrol tax for the quarter ended September 30.
