TALLOW, HEMP, GRAIN. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London, dated November 2:— Tallow—The spot market is quiet and sales at auction' were slow. Present quotations are:—Mutton: Fine, 40/ to 40/6 per cwt; fair to good, 37/6 to 39/; dark to dull, 35/6 to 36/. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 39/ to 42/; fair to good, 36/ to 38/6; dark to dull, 35/ to 35/6. Mixed: Pair to good, 36/ to 38/0; dark to dull, 35/ to 35/6. Gut, etc.: 34/ to 35/6. . Hemp—Manila is again easier. Closing values for J grade November-January shipments and December-February shipments are £35, sellers. Sisal: The market is quiet and easy. ' Business has been done in fair average quality October-December shipments as follows: No. 1, down to £38 5/; No. 2, £37. Good marks No. 1 was offered at £39 5/, with a few transactions in No. 2 at £38. Mexican: Firm good white, £40 2/6; special brushed, £43 12/6. New Zealand: The market is dull and the tendency is-downward, especially in lower grades. Buyers' ideas are considerably below those of sellers. comparative closing values, NovemberJanuary shipments, are: High points, £33 10/; fair, £30 to £30 10/; common, £28 to £28 10/. Tow is unchanged. Oats.—The market continues very, dull for imported, with prices easier, as the pressure of German supplies is still felt. Plate November shipments ar offered at 19/9; new crops, December-February .shipments, are obtainable at 20/9; Chilian afloat is offered at 20/; German November shipments, sellers ask 39/9. English offerings are restricted on account of the low prices. Choice white spring is offered at 24/ to 25/; other qualities down to 21/. Peas. —Maple: The demand for imported continues dull, good quality English being obtainable at '51/ to 52/. Sellers of jSTo. 1 New Zealand Partridge afloat ask around 55/ c.i.f., but buyers' ideas are not more than 51/6, as landed parcels ex store are obtainable at 52/6 to-55/. Blues: No recent business in New Zealand or. Tasmanian, as the market is over stocked with Japanese and Dutch, which are selling at poor prices. Business has been done at £18 15/ for September-November shipments, and down to £18 for DecemberJanuary shipments. Nominal value of New Zealand ex store, £15 to £16. Beans.—The market is quiet. English' crops are of good quality and are held firm, best winter making 53/ to 54/; old spring crop, 57/ to 59/. Chinese horse are dull of sale, October-November shipments offering at £9 2/6 without buyers. Danish Cocksfoot.—The market is quiet, the present value being about 85/ c.i.f. New Zealand ports. Wool.—At Bradford a better tone is reported for tops. Quotations steady at the last rates quoted.
BRADFORD V/OOL MARKET. LONDON, November 4. Bradford market is firm and 'stocks generally are light. The strike is depressing business. ! Rubber Stocks. Rubber stocks, 48,092 tons. WHEAT MARKET WEAK. CONGESTION AT LIVERPOOL. LONDON, November 4. Grain ships are arriving at Liverpool practically every tide. Warehouse accommodation is insufficient. A number of vessels in clock utilised warehouses. The position is due to exceptionally heavy South American crop and decreased Continental buying, owing to good Home crops. Drop in Chicago. Wheat sold off nearly four cents a bushel, with prices sagging under general reselling and liquidation. Loss of orders has been influenced considerably by the slump in stocks, but is also affected by weaker cables, better Argentine news,- and lack of export demand. Closing rates were:—December delivery, $1.24%; March, $1.31V 2 ; May, $1.35%. GOOD FOR NEW SOUTH WALES. ' ABUNDANT WHEAT HARVEST. SYDNEY, November 4. As a result of very favourable spring conditions the New South Wales wheat harvest is expected to be much better than earlier forecasts indicated. The Department of Agriculture estimates the total will be 32,500,000 bushels. There will probably be an exportable surplus of . thirteen to fourteen million bushels.' " '""
