RISE IN TRAM FARES.

On the Point Chevalier bus the other day three inspectors went through a crowded bus in one trip. The bus was overloaded, a thing private buses are not allowed to do. Moreover, the private buses are only allowed to stop at certain places, whereas the council buses can stop anywhere. If there are thirtyfive inspectors at £6 10/ a week, uniform and great coat provided, you can figure out how much of the people's . money is wasted, as inspectors are not necessary.. No person is likely to evade paying his legal fare, and if he did the conductor has only to. call a constable. The buses are not'paying;'no one wants them. Why not take them off and give private buses a chance which are run on business-like lines? A.R.
