SELECT COMMITTEE'S REPORT.

Reporting on a statement by the Native-Minister on the Tongariro Timber- Company and; West Taupo forest lands, the Native ' Affairs Committee, which considered the statement, made the following recommendations: — That the Aotea District Maori Land Board be permitted to give six months' notice for the termination of the agreement with the Tongariro Timber Company. That the board be 5 empowered to represent the native owners as from passing of the Act. That it is desirable that the Crown should acouire the timber lands upon terms to be arranged with the native owners of the lands concerned, or alternatively that the Crown and the natives as owners of the freehold, join, ii: a scheme for the management, control and disposal of. such timber. That the Government formulate a scheme for the settlement of the lands comprised in the agreement, to be effective in regard to open count-y and to timber lands a« the timber is wanted out. ..— '•"•- . ;; - - " . x ■'■, - The report was adopted by the House.,
