THE FISHING SEASON.
OPENED AT TAUPO. j "r>,
UNFAIRNESS OF NEW
REGULATIONS,
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
TAUPO, Friday,
The fishing season opened to-day in showery weather. All trolling launches were well patronised. The largest fish taken weighed Yilb. Much dissatisfaction with the new regulations exists amongst those who are interested in trolling, owing to the extension of • prohibition areas, which have been extended to Wharewaka Point, more than four miles from Taupo. '-This stops all fishing from boats or launches in south-easterly weather, as this particular four miles is the only place sheltered more or less from that wind. On Tuesday many persons interested met Mr. Keen in Taupo. He is the conservator of fish and game for this district. Protests were made against the foregoing regulations, and also against the Waikato being closed for trolling. Many of the. townspeople own small boats and get a great deal of pleasure troVing in the river. The speakers asked that last year's regulations be continued; also that trolling be permitted on the river, at least as far as the bridge. Last year the Department promised that the regulations would not be altered without consulting the Taupo people. One speaker said the only way to get justice for the rank and file would be by petition to. Parliament. ' • •
