PERTH, October 31. The first match of tho tour of' the English cricketers, under the captaincy of Mr. A. H. Gilligan, was commenced to-day at Perth against a Western Australian eleven. There was a small attendance. The weather was showery and rain necessitated an early luncheon. There was an enforced adjournment for 15 minutes in the afternoon. The wicket was dead. , Western Australia won the toss and batted first. The score was 03 at lunch time. The first century took 95 minutes to compile. Horrocks made 51 and was batting (it) minutes. Tho play was featureless and the bowling was disappointing. The score at the tea adjournment was 132 for six wickets, and the innings closed for 185. Worthington and Allom were the most impressive bowlers. Both kept a lino length. Nichols did not bowl up to his reputation for fastness, and the others were not remarkable. The feature of the day was the line batting of Horrocks. The visitors had made 25 for no wickets in their first innings when stumps were drawn.
