TRANSPORT BILL.
"NOT MANY AMENDMENTS."
COMMITTEE READY TO REPORT,
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter. 1 ) WELLINGTON, Thursday.
Quite by accident a liiglily interested House was informed to-day by Mr. Clinkard, Chairman of the Select Committee on the Transport Law Amendment Bill, that practically no amendments have been made in the measure. There had been a special arrangement of the Order Paper to secure reports on several bills, and Mr. Cllinkard was under the impression that he could present his committee's report. When he rose to do so there were demands from all ov<s* the House to know what amendments had been made, and his reply has been quoted. However, when the Acting-Leader of the House, the Hon. George Forbes, discovered what was transpiring, he intervened to stop further proceedings in connection with this report, suggesting that it could be taken next day. "This time six months," remarked Mr. Fraser, Wellington Central. (Laughter.) It would be a breach of privilege at the present stage to disclose the nature of the amendments.
