POSSIBLE OXFORD "BLUE."

W. E. Henley, the New Zealander who is mentioned in the cables as having played in the final of the Oxford University Rugby trials, is one of the Dominion's Rhodes Scholars for this year, and a footballer who is expected by his friends to win the honour of a Rugby "Blue." If he does so he will be another of the long line of Otago 'Varsity medical students who have attained that distinction. Henley is the eon of the late Dr. Henley,, of Napier, and first learned the Rugby game at the Napier High School. Later he went to Wanganui College and then on to Otago 'Varsity. He played club football in Dunedin and represented New Zealand 'Varsities against Australian 'Varsities in the three Tests-ear,ly this year. Later, when holidaying in Napier prior to leaving for England, he played for Hawke's Bay against Waikato, and in the Ranfurly Shield match against Wairarapa. With height, weight, and pace to recommend him, Henley should go far in University football in England. AUCKLAND UNION. REPRESENTATIVE BLAZERS. At a meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union's management committee last evening, over which Mr. H. Frost presided, it was resolved to donate two guineas to the Sports Protection League. The N.Z.R.U. notilied the approval of the reinstatement of Norman Pell. It was resolVed to send a letter of congratulation to the Otahuhu Club on their success in winning the fourth grade competition. The union made a new departure in regard to their representative players when it was decided that those having played in three matches against a union affiliated direct to the N.Z.R.U. should receive blazers and, further, that any old representative player should, under certain conditions, be able to procure such on application to the union. The blazer colour submitted had been approved as being typical of the union's representative colours with a monogram of the City of Auckland coat of arms surrounded by. a wreath of laurel leaves. EDEN CLUB'S REUNION. Members of the Eden Rugby Football Club's seventh grade teams were entertained at a function in the club's training shed last evening, Mr. E. H. Potter, Mayor of Mount Eden, presiding. Quite a number of parents were in attendance, together with officials of the . Rugby.. .Union, J.M.8., and Referees' Association. After the toast of "The King" had been honoured, Mr. H. Frost, chairman of the *A.R.U., presented, caps to the members of the seventh A team, who won their grade. In doing so he tendered some excellent advice to the boys on getting' and keeping fit, stressing the point of always taking defeat in the same ■ manner as they would success. Mr. A. J. Tilly also spoke in the same terms and congratulated the club on having such a fine arid efficient lot of officials. Mr. Meharry replied on behalf of the winning team, which toast had been proposed by Mr. E. C. Stretton. The chairman also presented photographs of the team to playing members. The toast of the B team was proposed by Mr. A.' Ritchie, secretary of the club, and responded to by Mr. Win, manager of the team. The referees' toast was in the hands of Mr. E. Addison, the response falling to the lot of Mr. A. J. Wakefield. In proposing the toast of the founders of the club, Mr. G. Buckley referred to the wonderful work accomplished by those responsible, referring more particularly to the fact that they had, with the assistance of lady friends, provided the fine training shed fpr use of players. Mr. Nagel, in replying, said that it had been a labour of love. The club had come through successfully and the founders were well rewarded for their efforts. "The ladies" toast was received enthusiastically, reference being made to the valuable assistance always rendered by them to the club. An apology was received for the absence of Mr. G. C. Munns, patron of the club.
