MINING NEWS.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS

Moanatalari. —The shaft has been sunk a further 6ft; total, 17ft. The country is of the best description, being a little milder and still carrying black mineral seams. Two shifts were put on on Thursday night, and better progress will now be made. Occidental Una. —During the week work has been confined to stoping on the hangingwall leader north-west of shaft. The leader will average about 9in in thickness, and the quartz is very heavily mineralised, and during the week at each breaking-down strong dabs and colours of gold were to be seen in the stone broken, and by indication this leader should make better gold at any time. The country rock through which the leader is traversing Is all that could be wished for. New Waiotahi. —The crosscut to Intersect the Caledonia No. 2 reef has been advanced a further distance of 16ft, thus making the total distance driven since the contractors started 76ft. The channel of country rock in the face at present is a decided change for the better, being a nice, mild andecite with numerous small heads traversing through it and favourable for the existence of leaders and reefs. During the week we cut the top of an old stope at floor of level which was worked on a small seam with quartz in it about lft 2in wide.
