TRANSACTIONS ON 'CHANGE.

FAIR BUSINESS DONE,

BANKS STILL WEAK

LOCAL STOCKS IN DEMAND,

Business on the local Exchange continues fairly active, and a fair number of sales were recorded yesterday afternoon, and again this morning. Bank shares, generalb r , are still weak, and still lower rates have been accepted for Commercials of Australia. Popular local stocks, however, retain their value, and a number of these changed hands this morning without any concessions being made by the vendors. Grey Valley Collieries were quoted ex dividend, with values adjusted accordingly. Breweries' shares, which have been dull of late, seem a shade easier, with offers to sell at £4 8/6. The Noon Call. Fresh sales reported at the noon call served to record a continued decline in bank shares. Bank of New Zealand, after holding on well, have dropped in sympathy with the others, with a sale at £2 19/9. Weakness of Australian issues is shown in the offer of Australian Glass at £2 12/, and of Dunlop Rubber at £1 5/9. Interest Rates. The return to the investor on his outlay, based upon the latest dividends and in the case of loans and debentures upon redemption at maturity, works out as follows for the latest sales: — PER CENT PER ANNUM. £ s.
