PROBATION GRANTED

OPOTIKI, this dav,

Hopa George Shalfoon, Arthur Mallie Clarke and John James Fov appeared in the Police Court this morning, charged with breaking and entering and stealing from the dwelling of T. Hendry. A fur° ther charge was brought against Shalfoon and Clarke of breaking into the Farmers' Trading Company's premises with intent to commit a crime on the night of October 1".

The charges were reduced to common theft and mischief, and to these the accused pleaded guilty. All were admitted to probation fcr two years, and ordered to make restitution and pay the costs of the prosecution. A charge against Shalfoon and For of procuring liquor while prohibited was adjourned.
