There was an excellent attendance at the annual meeting oi the Waikato Hunt Club yesterday at Cambridge, and a most interesting day's sport was provided. The weather, exempt for a couple of showers, remained line. and the course was in good order. The Hunt Club Cup (steeplechase) was won by Importer, who beat Ponjola by half a neck. W aitaunalia was third and Pompeius fourth. The stewards held a. lengthy inquiry concerning Importer failing to jump a fence pear the entrance to the back stretch the last time. It was eventually decided to disqualify the horse for the race, and to suspend his rider, J. Sharkey, for three months. During the day the sum of £31,579. TO/-was put through the machine, - against £31,533 for the meeting last season, an increase of £346 10/. An Outsider Scores. Democratic ( £6GS), Calithe ( £630) and Solanio, ( £507) were best backed in the Ladies' Bracelet. Waiau Lady lost her rider when the tapes went up, and Luminary led past the stands from Democratic, Solanio, Master Roley, Gay Comet, Archangel, Te Kawana and Oalithe. Going along the back the order was Luminary, Gay Comet, Master Roley, Solanio, Calithe and Democratic. Luminary was first to turn home from Master Roley. Democratic, Foxhound, Kalintha and 'Calithe. Master Roley then challenged strongly, and in a good finish the decision went to Luminary by a head. Democratic was two lengths away, followed by Foxhound, Solanio and Calithe. A double figure was received bv the supporters of the winner. Pegaway Surprises. Lady's Boy was the only defection fro;n the Bollard Memorial Handicap, with which the meeting concluded. The public went for The Begum and Awarere, the former carrying £791, and the latter only £1 less. Kingfield ( £755) was next in demand, while Pegaway onlv had £.335 invested on his chance. Kingfield and Awarere were the first to show out followed by The Begum and Liaison Takutama ran to the front before a couple of furlongs had been covered being attended by Kingfield, Awarere The Begum, Leitrim and Pegaway. King ' field had run up to Takutama as the; crossed the top, with Value, Awarere The Begum, Leitrim and Pegaway next The order was much the same into th< straight, where Kingfield drew out, bu then Pegaway came through on the out side, and. galloping over everything, woi easily bv a length and a half from King field, who beat Takutama by half i leno-th.
