TASMANIAN JUDGE'S PRAISE.: (From Our Own Correspondent.) . CAMBEIDGE, Friday. Dr. Jarman, of Launceston, Tasmania, who acted as adjudicator in the musical sections at the Cambridge competitions, stated that he had been very favourably impressed with the vocal and instrumental items he had heard. He ha<j listened to some beautiful voices, and from what he had heard, both hereand. in other parts, he was convinced that tHO New Zealand women could hold their owij with those of any country in .the world as regards voices. There was f .perhaps, not the same high standard of •teaching available as on the Continent'; hut as better training was made available, New singers should occupy a lug" place in the world of song. ' , Dr. Jarman said lie was disappontfea with the violin section at the festival, but the pianoforte playing had been very good He was pleased with the chofai section He took a special interest: m choral work, which in these days was not receiving the attention it should.
