MISSIONARY WORK.
— •—— ACHIEVEMENT IN INDIA. A missionary meeting occupied the session of the Baptist Conference last evening, when an account of early missionary work in India was given by Mr S. Barry. Mr. Barry mentioned the work of Alexander Duff and William Carey. There were indications, he said, that Indian thought had been deeply and permanently affected. An interesting address on his work in Bengal was given by the Rev. H A Jones. It was difficult, said Mr. Jones', to accomplish conversions anions? such self-satisfied people as tin- Mohammedans. Converts often suffered persecution, which Mohammedans justified The assertion that a great change was taking place in India, and that the high castes were learning that they were not so very high, was made by Mr. Jones. Miss M. A. Bradfield also spoke of her work in Chandpur, India.
