GRAMMAR 6LUB'S MEETING. FUTURE UNCERTAIN. Presented at tlie annual meeting last evening, the report of the Grammar Swimming and Life Saving Club stated that two of the three carnivals held last season had resulted in linaucial loss, but that that fact had been compensated for by the high standard of swimming attained. The club had been fortunate in having the services of three swimmers of the calibre of G. Bridsou and Misses E. Stockley and D. Grant. Miss Stockley won the 100 yds free-style and 100 yds backstroke Auckland and New Zealand championships. Miss Grant annexed the 220 yds and 440 yds Auckland championships, and was second in the Dominion championship events. Bridson won the 220 yds, 440 yds and 880 yds Auckland championships, and the 440 yds and SSOyds N.Z. championships. As members had captured all but one of the local free-style titles, and obtained 29 of Auckland's 44 points at the national championships, the club could safely claim it had been New Zealand's premier club for the season. Regret was expressed at the departure of Miss Stocklcy for Sydney, and Miss Grant for Suva. Furthering its aim to promote swimming in the Grammar Schools, the club had made arrangements with Its coach, Mr. D. B. Anderson, to teach the pupils. As a result 34 boys had been successful in gaining the certificates awarded by the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. A small credit balance was shown for the season. The outgoing committee reported it viewed with much misgiving the meagre support accorded the club by old boys of the schools, and that such lack of support was particularly regrettable in view of the good work being done. It was decided that a special meeting be held on Wednesday, October 23, to consider the advisability of the club suspending its activities for the coming season.
