CREDIT BY FRAUD.
GOODS BOUGHT AND PAWNED.
KANT REMANDED FOR SENTENCE,
On , one of six charges of. incurring debts and obtaining credit to the extent of £22 by fraud/Charles Eric Spurgcon (41), ail electrical engineer, was convicted by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M./at the Police Court this morning.
The case was partly heard last Friday, Evidence was then given that accused obtained goods from various big drapery establishments in the city and afterwards pledged or pawned them. To-day Mr. J. F. W. Dickson, who appeared for Spurgeon, submitted that the question ,for the Court to decide was -whether, accused intended to defraud. Co\insel, .submitted that what Spurgeon told the .firms, when he got the clothing on credit, was true. Counsel said Spurgeon came from the West Coast, where he had been ruined t>y the big earthquake.
