PATHETIC END.
PAUPER'S FUNERAL.
Postcard Inventor Dies In Penury. FORTUNE LOST. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 11 a.m.) BERLIN", October 1. Ludwig Zrenner, father of the picture postcard of to-day, had a pauper's funeral at Munich. Zrenner died unknown and utterly forgotten in a garret in a slum of the city to which, in the early 'seventies, he had brought fame by his invention. Zrenner was a young lithographer at Nurernburg. He hit on the brilliant idea which has since brought joy to countless tourists. He brought out the world's first series of picture postcards on May 1, 1572. The idea caught on with marvellous rapidity, spreading throughout the world. Zrenner prospered and retired at GO. but in the inflation of the mark he lost the whole of his fortune. ■ - •
