FARMER'S PAINFUIi ORDEAL. SHOUTS FOR HELP HEARD. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAEEI, this day. While Mr. John Sykcs was cutting a tree on Monday afternoon in his property on'the Kanao Road, it fell towards him and pinned his left leg to the ground. His efforts to release himself with the aid of an axe. ended when the handle broke, but finally, after a struggle, he was able to strip off his boot and draw the imprisoned leg out. Ho then crawled a quarter of a mile to within hailing distance of the road, where his shouts attracted the attention of a passer by. In a very exhausted condition, Mr. Sykes, who is 47, was taken to the district hospital, where an X-ray examination was made. It showed that no break had occurred in the leg, but it was badly crushed. LOG BREAKS MAN'S I/E€r. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) OTAKI, this day. A man named F. New had one leg broken yesterday at Mangaone mill through a log rolling on him.
