MOTHER-LOVE FOR HER YOUNG ONES.
(Prom "Fairy Flora," 12 years). A friend of mine, not long ago, had a baby magpie for a pet. It was kept in a cage and fed in the usual way. One day this person happened to go outside, and found another grown magpie standing near the box. On her appearance it flew to some yonder trees and watched ■-■' the intruder's proceedings. The girl walked over to the cage and found, much ,-jjj to her sorrow, the pet dead. She the story to her friends, when one tqldic': her that it was often heard altfWifc parent birds killing their babies when kidnapped. Apparently the mother bird had poisoned her young one -wither than leave it in the hands of m human beings. • &<«il .-•'
