JUMBLED NAMES OF FAMOUS PEOPLE.
AN f INTERESTING COMPETITION FOR THIS WEEK. V, V LAST WEEK'S STANDARD LOWER THAN USUAL. Dear Boys and Girls, — # The result of the "Submarine Voyage to Antarctica" competition was rather disappointing. The standard of the work on the whole was poor, and the decrease in the number of entries showed that the romance of snow and vice did not appeal to Budget readers. The "report" * sent in by Kathleen Neely, 34, West End Road, Heme Bay, age 17, was awarded the first prize, with Doris Brown's entry coming a close second. Charles Taylor, 0.5.8., struck an original chord in his tale, the theme of which differed from the three other prize winning efforts, each of which told of strange beings living on or under the ice flottf. Charles Taylor, however, whilst aboard the submarine, had a dream in which he saw a smoking volcano and a landslide. A shadowy figure appeared before him, and, pointing to the avalanche, said to look below the churning waters and find—gold. Next day the volcano was sighted, and the landslide also occurred.. Upon investigation an olden-day vessel was found, which corftained jars of gold nuggets. It is a pity that our, 0.5.8.'s story had not been better written, for then it would surely have earned for him a higher place. The entry of Sheila Quinn carried off the last prize. An old favourite ha 3 been arranged for this week. The surnames of thirty famous men and women have been taken and their letters jumbled Competitors must rearrange the , letters to spell the names of the JpfD people they stand for. Just a word of warning—the crocodile is on the A. lookout for riddleless entries. / Further particulars about the competition; can be obtained from "Our s Competition Corner."
