TE AROHA TROTTING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS
Mr. H. E. D. Willcox presided at the annual meeting of members of the club on Monday evening, when the attendance was satisfactory. The balance-sheet showed receipts £3208 4/ and cxpediture £3437 9/9. The liabilities stood at £1 16/ and the assets £1577 19/5.
The chairman said the date for the next race meeting had been fixed for January 25, in order to enable the Jockey Club to complete its new course. Mr. Deverell considered the amount paid to the Jockey Club, too high. When the agreement was made between the two clubs there was no. idea of any totalisator rebate being received from the Government, and he thought this should not be paid in addition to rent.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted.
The chairman considered the time had arrived when the club should have a track of its own in order to foster the sport of trotting in the district. With a trotting training track the sport would progress.
Several members voiced the opinion that a suitable course could be made on the Jockey Club property by making the track in the centre.
Messrs. Deverell, Kenny, Jackson and Willcox were appointed a committee to report on the subject of a suitable course, and to interview Mr. Gibbs, engineer, to see if a satisfactory ono could be formed on the Jockey Club property.-
Messrs. Willcox and Deverell were appointed a finance committee. Mr. F. I. Hunt, who had been an official of the club since its inception, •was elected a life member.
