RECEPTION TO NURSES.
The committee and members of the Lyceum Club entertained at the Club last evening the members of the NewZealand Trained Nurses' Association and delegates who are attending the annual conference of the association, which is being held in Auckland this Aveek. There was a large gathering of members, and a very enjoyable time was spent. The lounge was' beautifully decorated with tall vases containing delicate cherry blossom and large bowls of deep red rhododendrons, and the fires burning in the large twin-hearths made the room very cosy. On the tables in the supper room, vases of orange and gold Iceland poppies were to be seen. The guests were received by Mrs. W. H. Parkes, president of the club. In a brief speech of welcome, Mrs. Parkes said that the members of the club were indeed pleased to have the nurses with them, and were proud to have as their guests members of such a noble profession. New Zealand nurses were always very highly thought of, not only in their own country, but also in places abroad, and their high standard of efficiency had been the subject of much praise. On behalf of the members of the club, Mrs. Parkes wished the nurses a most successful conference. A very enjoyable programme was provided, comprising instrumental and vocal numbjers and a couple of short plays. A pianoforte duet, " The Dance of the Plum Blossom Fairy," was played by Miss O'Leary and Mr. Eric Bell; Miss Helen Gray gave a violin s-010, a Mazurka (Borowskijj Miss Patricia McLeod sang "The Gipsy and.the Bird"; Miss Jean Clarkson, played a pianoforte solo, "Ballade I^GJ.Minoi' 5 ' (Chopin); and songs were given by Miss Mina Caldow. In the first playette, which was entitled "In the Eight," the parts were played by Mrs. Hobday, Miss Vera Ziman, and Miss Marie Gaudin, the author. In "The Young Idea," by. Herbert Swears, the parts were taken by Miss Joy Bartley and Mrs. Estelle Verran. The whole programme was much appreciated by the,, listeners, and at its conclusion an enjoyable . supper was served. Amongst the quests were: Miss Bicknell, Mrs. Tracey Inglis, Mrs. A. Kidd, Miss Bagley, Miss Moore, Mrs. Lambie, Miss Inglis, Mrs. Mirama, Miss Keddie, Miss Goldsmith. Mrs.'Todd 'Smith, Miss Bird, Mrs. Hood. Mrs. Wright, Miss Garland, Miss G. Williams, Miss Stewart, Miss Taylor, Miss Gumming, Miss McFarlane, Mrs. Coleman, Miss M. Neil, Miss Nutsey, Miss Cussen, Miss Crolly Miss V. McLean, Miss Umache, Miss Buchanan, Miss North, Miss Broadley, Miss Keith, Miss Knight, Miss Haresnape.
