MISHAPS TO MACHINES. (Received 11.30 a.m.) MELBOUENE, this day. C. Pratt," in a Moth, is leading in the air race from Sydney to Perth, with H. Miller's de Havilland 9 and B. Bard3ley's Moth second and third respectively. There were several minor mishaps on the flight to Melbourne, breakdowns occurring to three machines. Bertram Heath, in a de Havilland 50, made the fastest flying time but, on his handicap, is last, owing to,his losing over an hour in starting from Sydney.
