WORK AT AVONDALE.

All the fast work at. Avondale this morning was done on the course proper with the trestles about 50ft out from the rails. The going was excellent. Historic, on the outside of Star Stranger, ran a mile in 1.46 3-5. He impressed more than Star Stranger, being slightly in front at the finish. He has improved since the Avondale meeting. Lineage ran three furlongs in 395. Bob Amans was doing better than Takarunga at the finish of five furlongs in 1.7 1-5.. Owairaka ran half a mile at a strong pace. Trickle covered three, furlongs in 395. Lady Eustace was doing her best to run half a mile in 525. False Scent easily disposed of Crimestor at the end of six furlongs in 1.16 4-5. This was a particularly smart gallop considering the distance he was out from - the rails. Hoi de Val sprinted home after doing easy work. Maori Boy gave Appellant a start and was. alongside him at the finish of five furlongs in 1.5 2-5. Oil King beat Appeal at the end of half a mile in 52 2-ss. Cylinder covered half a mile in 50 3-ss, and finished a shade in front of Knightlike. This was a very pleasing effort. Transformer and Piuthair, who was on the outside', ran a mile in 1.50 3-5. Neither is a good track horse. Set Fair ran three furlongs in 395. Benzora and Te Atiawa covered a mile down the back in 52 l-ss. Valquette easily defeated Gold Lily at the end of half a mile in 52 3-ss.
