» TE AROHA. The finals In connection with the Presbyterian bazaar tugs-of-war resulted in Elstow winning both the light and heavyweight coutests, defeating the Manatraru and Mangaiti teams. The light-weights were represented by F. Stockley, A. Hirst, A. Kinn, C. and A. Martelli, and the heavyweights by J. Young, N. Kinn, S. Campbell and L. Stockley. Mr. 'J". W. Aickln was skip. At a meetljig of the committee of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Mr. J. D. Mackay was appointed entertainment steward. A sub-committee was appointed to organise a concert for show nlpht. Messrs. Strange, Wagstaff, Dale, Mackay and Colson, were deputed to make inquiries into the matter of instituting a woodchopping eveut for the People's Day. In the matter of a suitable landing ground for aeroplanes, the Waihou Domain Board has decided tbat, while it eannot grant any rights for the purpose, it has no r objection to 'planes looking temporary use* of the grounds. This Domain is in the borough and only about half-a-mlle from the centre of t!ie town. From all points of view it should seive as a decidedly suitable place.

WHAKATANE.

A farewell social and dance was tendered to Mr. J. J. Guest, headmaster of the Te Teko school, and family in the Te Teko Hall on Thursday night last. Mr. J. Beattie, on behalf of the combined sports bodies of Te Teko, spoke feelingly of the general regret experienced by all in the district at the departure of the guests. On behalf of the parents of the school children, lie wished to express their indebtedness to Mr. Guest for the way the school had beer. conducted. Mr. Beattie, on behalf of the residents of the district. presented Mr. Guest with a cheque. Mr. R. Robinson, on behalf of the Maoris, presented Mr. Guest with a beautifully carved Maori paddle and a mat. The paddle, stated Mr. Robinson, was of historical value, and was symbolic of a successful passage through life.
