EXTRA POWER CHARGE.
POSITION AT ALFRISTON.
UNPAYABLE EXTENSION,
Feeling that their district must now be self-support ing, residents of Alfriston are surprised that they should be required by the Auckland Electric Power Board to pay 10 per cent on ordinary rates to help the revenue from the extension. The jreneral manager of the board (Mr. E, H. Bartley) reported yesterday that it was always clearly understood by him that the extra charge would be made in view of the revenue being proportionately small to Ihe capital expenditure of the extension. Individually the item of 10 per cent was extremely small, but collectively it was a consideration. The revenue from the district would not exceed £325, and the capital charges on the £5704 already spent on the extension was £570 a year. Thus a net loss of £2G2 was shown to the board. It was decided to advise the settlers of Alfriston that the 10 per cent charge was universal in outer districts, but should their district come up to the paying point, the position would be reviewed bv the board.
