TOURIST TROPHY RACES.

HISTORY OF THE EVENTS

[This is the concluding instalment of an article specially written for the "Star" by an expert dealing with the famous Tourist Trophy races, both senior and junior, held annually on the Isle of Man. The article is a complete History of these races from the first event in 1007 up to a few weeks ago, when the 1029 races were decided.] In the 1926 event the speeds were only slightly higher* than the previous year, the senior T.T. placings being: — 1st —S. Woods, Norton, averaged 67.54 miles per hour. 2nd—W. L. Handley, Rex Acme, averaged 66.31 miles per hour. 3rd—F. A. Longman, A.J.S., averaged 66.03 miles per hour. Junior Race. In this race Alec Bennett, a wellknown rider, and the winner of the 1924 senior event, was mounted on a comparatively new designed machine, and his win came as rather a surprise, although the time was only 1J miles per hour faster than the previous year. Ist—A. Bennett, Velocette, averaged 06.704 miles per hour. 2nd—T. H. Simpson, A.J.S., averaged 63.9 miles per hour. 3rd —W.. L. Handley, Rex Acme, averaged 63.37 'miles per hour. Light-weight Event, 1g26. The course for the light-weight race in 1926 was extended to 264 miles, and the first three places were-secured by the same make of machine:— Ist—C. W. Johnstone, Cotton, averaged . 60.2 miles per hour. 2nd —F. G. Morgan, Cotton, averaged 55.12 miles per hour. 3rd—M. Colgan, Cotton, averaged 53 miles per hour. Amateur T.T., 1g26. The amateur event for this year was run over a course of 226 miles, the speed being slower than the amateur of 1925. Ist- —R. D. Adams, A.J.S., averaged 58.46 miles per hour. " 2nd —M. I. Dawson, H.R.D., averaged 55.46 miles per hour. 3rd—D. Oldroyd, Sunbeam, averaged 54.56 miles, per hour. Senior Event, 1927. In this race the winner of 1924 senior and the 1926 junior was again successful, raising the average speed by one mile an hour. 1st —A. Bennett, Norton, averased 68.41 . miles per hour. 2nd— J. Guthrie, New Hudson, averaged 66.02 miles per hour. 3rd —T. Simister, Triumph, averaged 65.75 miles per hour. , Junior Event, 1927. This race wasalse won by an experienced and popular T.T. rider, having been placed in three previous events in the Isle of Man. Ist—F. W. Dixon, H.R.D., averaged 67.19 miles per hour. ■ • 2nd—H. J. Willis, Velocette, averaged ■■■' 64.78 miles per hour. ' 3rd— j. H. Simpson, A.J.S., averaged 64.33 miles per hour. Light-weight Event, 1927. < W.. L. Handley, a name well known in English racing*circles, secured another win in this race. Ist—,W. L. Handley, Rex Acme, averaged 1 63.30 miles per hour. " ; 2nd —L. Archangeli, Guzzi, averaged 61.22 miles per hour. 1 3rd —C. T. Ashby, O.K. Supreme,^averaged 61.10 miles per hour.
