OBITUARY.

MR. ROBERT ROSS. Ono of the best-known and most popular men North of Auckland, Mr, Robert Ross, died at hie home, Topuiu, 76 years. Mr. Ross arrived in New Zealand with his parents when, he was four years of age. He grew to be a man of splendid physique, measuring in his prime Oft 3in in his stockinged feet. Although he weighed 17 .stone, he was a great athlete, and in a sprint used to beat any competitor of the same weight. Mr. Ross was one of the oldest cattle breeders and horse dealers North of Auckland, and was widely known as well as highly respected throughout the whole district. It was quite a common thing in , his earlier years for Mr.. Rose to gallop his horse alongside a steer breaking from a mob of cattle, lean over, seize the animal by the nose and the top of one horn, and throw it right over, jump down and hobble it before the animal could get to its feet again. Mr. Ross is survived by his wife and one daughter. I
