AUCKLAND SPRING RACES
LIST OF ACCEPTANCES. GOOD FIELDS IN ALL EVENTS. CUP AND SHORTS HANDICAP. Splendid acceptances have been received for the Auckland spring meeting, which opens at Ellerslie next Saturday, and it only needs good weather for the meeting to be one of the most successful held there. Thirteen remain in the Mitclielson Cup. Star Stranger, who was at the top of the weights with 9.11, still holds his place, and after his good finishing effort in the Plumpton Handicap at Avondale he should take some beating. Historic has 101b more tarry than he had when he won the A. .tie Cup, but this should n '; piously lui'ect him. He has shown ability up to a mile and three furlongs, Yoma just beating him by a hei " over that distance at Wellington last January. There is no reason why he si uld not stay on. Prince Humphrey finished fourth in the Avondale Cup with 9.0, and now has 8.12. He won the A.J.C. Derby last season, sc there is no doubt about him seeing out the distance. Prodice is well treated at 8.9, for she beat all but Historic in the Avondale Cup when carrying 21b less. She is likely to improve a good deal as the result of that race. Paddon has yet to show that he can see out a mile and a-half, though he has run well, up to a mile and a-quarter. He did not; get a ry good passage in the Avondale j Cup. Piuthair appears to be back to her best form. A couple of seasons ago she could run a great mile and a half, and after her success at Avondale last I Monday she will have support. Trans- J former, Talisker and Amor may be the best of the others. The principal fancies just now may be PRODICE. PIUTHAIR. PRINCE HUMPHREY. The Shorts Handicap. The Shorts Handicap has attracted a field of seventeen. Benzora is at the head of affairs with 9.0, but so far he has failed to show up this season. Gold Money was left on the first day of the Avondale .meeting, and did not run prominently on the second. Vallar has no. raced for some time, but Lady Quex will have some support after her second to Eaglet in the Flying Handicap at Avondale. High Finance raced on the second day of the same meeting, and led into the straight. She should soon improve. Havering, after winning the Seafield Handicap, seven furlongs, at Wanganui recently, was only beaten by a head by Consent in the Owen Handicap, the open sprint qn the second day. He had 8.6 on that occasion, and has now B.i: Awarere failed to go away in the Flying Handicap at Avondale on Saturday, but on Monday he was second to White Fang. Lady's Boy won well on the first day of the Avondale meeting, and finished second on the concluding day. ■ Of the. others Polyxena, who was a smart two-year-old last season, may appeal most. The favourite division just now may be LADY QUEX. AWARERE. POLYXENA. The list is:— TRIAL HURDLES of 400sovs. One mile and three-quarters.
