In the face of an unexpectedly large increase of 192 million dollars in brokers' loans to a new high loan record, stocks moved erratically with an advantage to the bears in a spirited tussle. Weakness was accentuated in the last hour, when fresh selling followed a feeble mid-after-noon rally. Leading stocks closed two to ten points off, with much higher losses Registered in lesser issues.
