BRIGHT AND SHINING.
SWIMMING BATHS READY. OPENING ON TUESDAY NEXT. Given reasonably mild weather on Tuesday next, eome of Auckland's swimming enthusiasts may be expected to take their first plunge of the season at the- Parnell and Shelly Beach baths. Extensive renovations having been carried out, both places' are now ready for the opening, which is to take place on the first day of next month. The Parnell baths, in addition to renovations euch as have taken place at Shelly Beach, have , received considerable attention from the staff of the City Council. The Town Clerk, Mr. J. S. Brigham, stated to-day that the wall round the baths at Parnell had been raised so high that at higoh tide there raised so that at high tide there would bo no possibility of contamination from outside. The edge of the baths had been treated with concrete slabs and asphalt, and the swimming pool itself had been thoroughly recoated. Plans are now being prepared by the Acting City Engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, for the construction of four more slipper baths in the building at the foot of Hobson Street. Two will be put in immediately arid two more as required.
